Writing a Harvard Essay: Sample Policy MemosThere are many resources on the internet to assist you in the writing of a Harvard essay. You can search for sample policies from various Universities and Colleges online, but at first glance it may be difficult to discern which policy will best fit your needs. There are several general tips that I will share with you in this article.First, you should look to your subject and write about the general topic. An example would be, 'If we had a moon landing today, what would we learn?' Or 'What kind of regulations could we be approved to have, if a bill passes?' A good rule of thumb is to write about the topic you have an interest in, and to steer clear of topics that are not part of your area of expertise.Secondly, a policy should always be written from the perspective of a third party, who is not familiar with the person's background. 'Did you know, Dr. [Researching An Example], that during World War II, you were an intern for the Office of In formation?' Just to name one example. The good news is, if you happen to be a woman, you can certainly write about that topic as a female, without sounding sexist. I personally would recommend writing about yourself, if the sample policy is not.Third, keep it to one page. The longer your essay is, the more complicated it will be to navigate the length of your essay. It may seem easy to use one sentence and make a passage, but in actuality, it can become very confusing.Fourth, get it out of your head. Write it down, if you need to, and get it all down. It will not help your success if you forget the policy, and it can become your worst enemy if you do not pay attention to the policies that you read, as you might apply the one that you are currently reading.Fifth, make sure it is very well organized. You need to keep a document neat and in order. If you find it hard to search for the policy documents online, do not worry, there are a number of tools available to help you organize your work. I personally use one called Evernote, which is a great tool for keeping information organized and easily searchable.Sixth, write and develop a theme. In addition to researching the policy, a major step towards writing a good Harvard Essay is to come up with a general theme. If you want to create a theme, you need to work on that first. I use Google Docs, which allows me to type anything I want, and pull it out when I want to organize my data.Seventh, determine what type of support you need. Not only do you need to include, but you also need to determine if it is appropriate to include faculty support, student support, faculty references, or other support.
